If you have been paying any attention at all to what is going on in the online world right now, you are probably already aware of the pervasiveness of blogging, and how it has taken the entire online community by storm. You probably know one or two people who are knee deep into blogging right now, and you may even be a regular blogger yourself. Blogging is truly an immensely popular pursuit youd better believe it, and that popularity is expected to grow even more exponentially over the next few years.
So, what is this "blogging" all about, and what is the secret to its huge popularity? And by extension, what is the deeper significance of blogging as it relates to you as an entrepreneur, a professional, or simply an ordinary everyday person?
All those questions can perhaps be partially answered by the realization that people have a fundamental need to interact with other people, in as many different ways as possible. The Internet has opened up so many avenues for ideas exchange and even simply basic communication that our list of contacts grows at an exponential rate. And it is precisely this need to "reach out" to "connect", and to otherwise establish a community with other people that has assured the vast popularity of blogging as an online phenomenon.
Of course, there are other ways to reach out to other people online, and avenues such as email and message boards remain in widespread use. However, blogging has got both of those beat with regard to instantaneous and spontaneous exchange. There are forms of online communication such as instant messaging as well, but they do not allow for extended exchanges as easily or as elegantly as blogging can.
Blogging truly has come a long way since its earliest incarnations as a sort of online diary or journal. Other blogs were utilized for more straightforward announcements and editorials, which was a common practice in the medical and industrial communities, as well as in the academe. Early blogs where then little more than informational pages in which bloggers passed on information to their readers. With more readers catching on to the interactive elements of blogging however this exchange became quite a bit more democratic. This gave rise to the present incarnation of the blog as a place wherein everyone has a voice.
Blogging has already been a familiar online facet for many years, and we have still yet to see beyond the curve. Going from initial indications alone, blogging is certain to have a lasting impact, the significance of which we have yet to see.
