Dog is a lovely pet and most of the dog owners are extremely cautious for the selection of the dog breed. The dog breeds are the ancestral lines of the dogs. Some dog breeds are natural while selective dog breeding is also carried out for getting the excellent dog breeds. For many years, the selective breeding of dog has been carried out to get the desired dog breeds. Selecting dog breeding is done by two ways firstly, inbreeding the dogs from the same ancestral lines and secondly, inbreeding the dogs from different ancestral lines. When a dog breed is healthy and perfect then breeding is usually done from the same ancestors.
On the other hand, in the mix selective breeding, different ancestral lines mate to promote a combination of breeds. As a result of the selective dog breeding, there is a wide variety of dog breeds. In the recent years, you can find huge variations in different dog breeds like the characteristics of Chihuahua are totally different from characteristics of Great Dane.
Different types of dog breeds can be generally categorized as registered dog breeds, rare dog breeds and new dog breeds which are under development. On the functional basis there are seven categories of the dog breeds including; Companion dogs, Guard dogs, Hunting dogs, Pastoral dogs, Sled dogs, Extinct dogs, Hypoallergenic breeds and Police dog breeds.
The first type of dog breed is the Companion dog breed, which include the dogs that are commonly kept as pets at homes. Most of the people keep them as hobby or for pleasure and these dogs are friendly by nature.
The dogs which are aimed to provide safety against the unwanted people are known as guard dogs. This dog breed has the feature that they bark to make the owner alert and active. The professional guard dog breeds are capable of attacking the suspicious person. Third category of the dog breed is the hunting dog which helps the individuals in hunting. These dogs are further categorized as hounds, terriers and gun dogs.
The pastoral dog breed include the dogs to work livestock. Sled dogs are healthy and powerful dogs because they are used for pulling the wheel less vehicle on runners. The dog species which do not longer exist are known as extinct dog breeds. Hypoallergenic dog breeds are also known as crossbreeds that are specifically bred for the individuals who have allergic issues. The dog breed which is used for the investigative and detective purposes by the police forces is known as Police dog breed.
